Lexus LS460 named 2007 International Car of the Year
Lexus flagship sedan LS460 has been crowned the International Car
of the Year - 2007 by Road and Travel Magazine. A proud achievement
that underscores the sedan’s all-round excellence as the most
coveted luxury car in the world. The LS460 had also won the world
car of the year and Japan Car of the Year, early this year.
Presenting the award, the jury showered high praise on the LS460
“Wearing the Car of the Year crown is a many faceted victory.
Since its early days, Lexus has never lowered the bar of high tech
perfection. Now, as the fabled LS starts its new, fourth generation
vehicle, the bar definitely has been raised again,” the citation
said.
The citation went on to underline LS460’s qualities that
guided their selection.” Say the name Lexus and immediately
there's a vision of solid performance under a mantle of refined
luxury. Exquisitely simplified lines and elegance simply "feel"
like power and speed, led at night by a crystalline jewel of headlamp
light. Taut lines give a sculptured appearance. Easy comfort and
openness invite one inside, where rich touches of leather, wood
and even an instantly warmed steering wheel set the mood before
experiencing the smoothness of the world's first eight-speed automatic
gliding from stop to top speed. And that's just one of the LS 460's
countless premier technologies that blend a drive into an experience.
“If there's such a thing as tranquility when surrounded by
thrilling audio sound, cruising at breathtaking speeds, cradled
in the surety of a safe ride, we think Lexus has managed that feat,”
the jury added.
The LS460 flagship sedan is a veritable technology showcase. Included
are the World’s First 8-speed Automatic Transmission, the
World’s First VVT-iE engine, the World’s First Relaxation
System, The World’s First Rear Cushion Airbag, World’s
First Roof Climate Diffusers, World’s Thinnest Smart Card
Key Entry System, the World’s Best 19-speaker Audiophile-grade
Music System from Mark Levinson and numerous other features that
will mould luxury automobiles in the years ahead. And with it the
global standards in luxury.
No matter which LS wheelbase you choose, the car comes a 4.6 Litre
V8 VVT-iE engine (another world first) and an 8-speed transmission,
which enables smooth gearshifts and excellent acceleration. Peak
torque is 46.4 Kg-M at 4000 rpm, and Lexus reports a 0-to-60-miles-an-hour
time of just 5.4 seconds.
Newly developed Speed Sensing electric power steering replaces
the LS 430's old rack, turning down the volume even further on noise,
vibration and harshness. It also works with VDIM to improve safety.
As sumptuous as the 460's interior is, comfort is taken to a whole
new level in the 460 L. Its Ottoman package pampers you with Climate
Control Seat surface, extended leg rests and rear seat massager
with remote control function! And that’s not all, there’s
also a four-zone rear air-conditioning with air purifier and a ceiling-mounted
air diffuser and a rear cool box for storing beverages. Finally,
the Executive Class Seating Package adds a four-person seating configuration
with a center console and retractable table, a power recline right
rear seat with massage and a leg rest, a rear-seat DVD Entertainment
system with power-opening 9-inch screen and infrared rear-seat body-temperature
sensors so the chauffeured needn't be bothered.
Standard stuff now includes push-button start and Bluetooth with
the latest Navigation system. Audiophiles will be blown away by
the optional Mark Levinson Reference Surround, a 19-speaker audio
system that pumps out 450 watts of power.
