Lexus RX earns Ward’s Top Interiors Award.
Ward’s Auto has handed out their 2009 Interior of the Year awards, and the Lexus RX has bagged one of the special-achievement awards. The RX, with its riveting asymmetrical center stack, tasteful wood steering wheel and luscious colour palette, has been recognized with a special-achievement award for ‘Design Harmony’. Design Harmony is a new category for the Interior Awards and is awarded for a combination of materials and presentation.
Ward’s editors evaluated a field of 35 vehicles that are either all-new or have significantly upgraded interiors for the ’09 or ’10 model years. All 2009 Ward’s Interior of the Year Award winners were picked based on two key elements: great looks and great value. “There are certain aspects we looked at closely in the Interior of the Year competition, and value is just as important to us as fit-and-finish, styling, comfort and safety,” says Drew Winter, editor-in-chief of Ward’s Auto World magazine.
All 35 vehicles were divided into six car and truck segments based on price. One winner is named for each of the six categories, plus special-achievement honourees are selected in five other areas. The 11 awards carry equal weight. Having both types of awards allows vehicles to compete with others in their segment, as well as with the entire field, regardless of price.
The Lexus RX is a luxury crossover SUV that has defined its class with segment-exclusive luxury features. Standard features on the RX include 10-way power front seats with memory, wood interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, 12 airbags and second-row seats that slide and recline.
A touch of advancement is added to the user-friendly navigation system by means of a remote touch device. The remote controller is easy to operate and helps the driver maintain straight-line visibility even while operating the same.
The rear seat is split 40/20/40, with the centre section able to be folded down when carrying long objects. It also has a 60/40 split which allows you to adjust each side. Legroom is sufficient for tall adults when the seat is pushed back. Three child restraint anchors are on the rear of the seat.
The twin rear-view camera and passenger side camera with parking guidance system amply support the parking in a tight spot. A stunning Mark Levinson audio system with 15 speakers and 6 DVD changer, Pre Crash Safety System, Adaptive cruise control, front seat air conditioners etc add to the luxury and safety appeal of the car.
