Lexus RX350: Fast. Agile. And feature-packed.

The IThe third-generation RX 350 continues to raise the bar for design, engineering and performance in the luxury crossover segment it created in 1998. The Lexus RX350 teams a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a six-speed Multi-Mode Automatic Transmission for an output of 275 horsepower at 6,200 rpm to deliver an exhilarating performance.

The RX 350’s six-speed automatic transmission yields a quick shifting response with help from miniature high-flow linear solenoids that control transmission-fluid line-pressure. The torque converter uses a low-speed lockup damper to enable lock-up from second to sixth gear to help improve the fuel economy.

The Multi-Mode Automatic Transmission allows the driver to shift manually when desired by first moving the gated shift lever to the “S” slot and then pushing it forward ("+") to up shift and backward ("-") to downshift. An Artificial Intelligence shifting (AI-SHIFT) control sets shift patterns based on the vehicle speed and throttle position and estimates road conditions and driver input to automatically control the shift pattern. For example, when driving in hilly areas, AI-SHIFT can prevent unnecessary shifting. When descending inclines, the transmission prevents up shifts to achieve more engine braking.

Lexus offers its RX luxury utility models with an all-wheel drive (AWD). The RX350 features an electronically controlled Active Torque Control AWD system. Active Torque Control AWD uses an electronically controlled coupling ahead of the rear differential to vary torque distribution anywhere from 100:0 to 50:50 front to rear, depending on driving dynamics and road conditions.

Standard features on all models includes a 9 Speaker Lexus Premium Surround Sound System with AM/FM/SW Radio, In-dash 6 CD changer, cruise control, privacy glass, automatic headlamps, 10-way power adjustment for both front seats, 19-inch aluminum wheels and leather trim for the steering wheel and shift knob. A 15 Speaker Mark Levinson - Premium Surround System is available in the Top End model of the RX350.

The navigation system is one of the best. The current Lexus package includes voice activation, Bluetooth interface with compatible cellular phones and impressive shadowed graphics. Lexus dealers can program the default settings of many of the control functions, so be sure you have them tailor automatic door locking and other features to your preferences.
The Lexus RX feels spacious when you settle in. It's luxurious and inviting. The leather upholstery is luxuriously soft and slightly bunched. The front seats are positioned off the floor at a comfortable chair height and are snug and supportive. The seat bottoms are relatively flat, making it easy to slide in and out.

The instrument cluster in the RX350 has three large, round gauges trimmed in silver, with legible script and near-perfect backlighting. The eight-inch navigation screen can also used for climate control and trip computer functions, and can display the outside temperature and clock (with alarm). It shows the image provided by the back-up camera, which is included with the navigation system and automatically activates when the transmission is shifted into reverse. It helps when backing the RX into a parking space.

Safety features that come standard include the mandated front airbags, plus a smaller airbag to protect the driver's knees. Front passengers get side-impact airbags for torso protection, while the curtain-style head protection airbags span both rows and deploy to offer head protection if the vehicle senses the possibility of a rollover. All RX350s feature advanced ABS, traction and stability electronics.
