Lexus ES Top Compact Premium Car in J.D. Power 2016 Vehicle Dependability Study

Lexus ES is one of Lexus’ most successful models worldwide. Its longer wheelbase and list of luxurious amenities make it one of the most preferred models among the enthusiasts. Recently Lexus ES has been named the top brand in the J.D. Power 2016 Vehicle Dependability Study for Compact Premium Cars. The study examines problems experienced during the past year by owners of 2013 model-year vehicles, and each brand’s overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100). A lower score reflects higher quality.

The Lexus ES is available with two types of engines. The first one is a 3.5-liter V6 engine with a maximum output of 272 hp / 6200 rpm and a maximum torque of 346 Nm / 4,700 rpm. The second engine variant is a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder with a maximum output of 181 hp / 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 235 Nm / 4,100 rpm. Both engines will be mated with a multi-mode 6-speed automatic transmission which delivers an outstanding combination of performance, efficiency and a quiet ride.

The Drive Mode Select feature in the Lexus ES can tailor powertrain response and other settings to suit conditions or the mood. ECO mode adjusts engine response and climate-control settings to help maximize fuel economy. Sport mode sharpens throttle and transmission response for a more engaging driving experience, while Normal mode is designed to provide an ideal balance of performance and efficiency.

For Lexus, designers have cast a daring new form with the refreshed ES. A commanding front fascia that features Lexus’ trademark spindle grille, framed in combination with accentuated brilliant satin chrome, gives this new ES a new sense of luxury and instantly distinguishes it from the crowd. Accompanying the grille is a pair of newly designed headlights, now equipped with LED technology, while iconic “L”-shaped arrowhead Daytime Running Lights (DRL) extend outside the headlight element for a distinctive look that links it with other Lexus models. Also, redesigned fog lamp areas have been relocated to the outer lower corners of the front fascia and amplify the vehicle’s wide stance.

The Lexus ES will be available in 10 exterior colours including four new colours: Sonic Quartz, Graphite Black GF, Amber C.S. and Deep Blue MC. All the 10 colours were carefully selected to reflect the ES’ dynamic surface and are developed through a multi-stage paint process that gives Lexus models their deep, jewel-like lustre.

Always in pursuit of optimal luxury, Lexus has made numerous upgrades to the 2016 Lexus ES’ already comfortable cabin. New interior colours and colour coordination, soft-touch materials on the console and silver-trimmed Piano Black door switch plates are among the enhanced details that give the interior a richer appearance. A total of four colours are available including two refreshed colours; Ivory and Black, with two newly added Topaz Brown and Moon Stone colours.

The new steering wheel has a sportier look and feel, and allows the driver to easily view the large multi-information display that links to multimedia functions. A new shift knob with a leather boot is also available. The 2016 Lexus ES’ luxurious spirit is further enriched with the standard 10-way adjustable power front seats, cushion length adjustment switch for the driver seat, automatic climate control, NuLuxe perforated upholstery, a power tilt-and-slide moon roof and power-adjustable outside mirrors with turn signals.

To complement this striking new design, two 17-inch wheels with directional spoke patterns have been developed. A multi-plane machined 20-spoke wheel in a metallic dark gray colour is also available as an option.

Starting with 12 standard airbags, the Lexus ES offers exemplary safety through its robust structure and a wide array of driver-assist technologies. For 2016, the new available Lexus Safety System+ Package combines Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beam System (AHB) and High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC).

The High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control tracks the speed of the vehicle traveling ahead and can adjust the speed setting accordingly to help maintain a preset distance. Should a vehicle enter or exit the lane or highway, the system responds with smooth acceleration and deceleration control.

PCS can detect vehicles – and in certain conditions, pedestrians – by using a combination of millimeter-wave radar and a front-facing camera. The system can warn the driver of a possible collision and can initiate automatic braking with Brake Assist if necessary. Using a camera to detect visible lane markings, the LDA will convey audio-visual alerts and vibrate the steering wheel if the systems determine that the driver unintentionally deviated from the lane. LDA, with Steering Assist enabled, can help the vehicle stay in the center of its lane by smoothly increasing steering torque to the required amount to assist in maintaining course.

Also available on the Lexus ES is AHB technology that senses headlights from oncoming traffic, and also the taillights of the vehicle traveling in front, and automatically adjusts high- and low-beam illumination. The optional Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) helps detect vehicles in side blind spots and alert the driver to rear cross traffic when backing out of a parking space.
